Inmaco’s rich history of machine engineering

Inmaco has a rich history of machine engineering. The Dutch company started in 1933 as a repair workshop, but evolved to become a machine manufacturer in the 1950s. Named after the family who ran the company, Markhorst constructed machinery that produced paper cups. However, fierce competition drove the company to abandon its efforts, focusing instead on the production of paper packaging equipment. These machines produced crimped cups, lids, composite cans and boxes, amongst other materials.

Steady reputational growth

Markhorst’s engineers continuously explored new technological opportunities and over the years, the company’s reputation, along with its number of customers, grew.
When, in the 1980s, people became more environmentally aware, Markhorst responded by adding the design and production of sustainable pulp moulding machines to their repertoire.
In 2003, they entered a partnership with Hilmar Group BV, an engineering company working for the oil and offshore sectors. Hilmar supplied parts and sub-assemblies, creating interesting cost optimisations for Markhorst and their clients.

A solid response to hard times

Unfortunately, in the years that followed, Markhorst and Hilmar Group fell on hard times. It took until 2017 to change the tides. That summer, PM Group took over both companies, providing the financial clout necessary to nurture them back to health.

Focused on sustainability and technological innovation

Inmaco, as they rebranded Markhorst, is short for International Machine Company. Located in Hoogeveen, the Netherlands, the manufacturer now employs fifty permanent staff members and a variable number of flex workers. In 2019, they acquired Consejo, another Dutch-based packaging company. Together, they continue their journey, combining a focus on sustainability and tech-driven innovation to build competitive, eco-friendly packaging machinery.
